Real Madrid Reach Agreement to Sign Diomande

Three years ago, he was nowhere near the spotlight — but today, the most exciting drama in the transfer market is unfolding around him. In 2023, Yann Diomandé was still balancing football with his studies. Less than three years later, he helped Ivory Coast win the World Cup. Now, he has single-handedly set the European transfer market alight.

Every major club on the continent lined up with chequebooks worth in excess of €100 million to secure the signature of the versatile 19-year-old. In the end, it was Spanish giants Real Madrid who won the race, reaching a preliminary agreement with the highly coveted young forward.

RB Leipzig had previously rejected an offer of £85.4 million from Los Blancos. However, according to the latest information from renowned British sports journalist Ben Jacobs, Madrid have now reached an agreement in principle with the Bundesliga club over the transfer of Diomandé. The Spanish club had already agreed personal terms with the young forward.

Diomandé has established himself as one of the most exciting young forwards in world football since joining Leipzig in 2025. He scored 13 goals and provided 10 assists in 36 appearances across all competitions last season. He was also a key figure in Ivory Coast’s attack at the recently concluded 2026 World Cup, featuring in all four of the team’s matches.

Diomandé’s rapid rise has attracted the attention of Europe’s most elite clubs. Liverpool were strongly interested in the 19-year-old, but the Reds were unwilling to meet Leipzig’s substantial asking price. Manchester City and Arsenal were also in contention, but the Ivorian has ultimately chosen the Santiago Bernabéu as his next destination.

Real Madrid were in urgent need of a quality winger to inject fresh momentum into their attack. Young Franco Mastantuono has struggled to find his footing in his debut season at the club, while Brahim Díaz is reportedly seeking a move elsewhere in search of more regular playing time. In this context, Diomandé is viewed as an ideal addition to the Madrid squad, thanks to his blistering pace, outstanding dribbling ability, and the versatility to operate in multiple positions across the front line.
