From Humble Beginnings to Real Madrid's $100 Million Signing

Real Madrid have agreed to sign RB Leipzig’s young wonderkid Yann Diomandé following lengthy negotiations. The Ivorian winger is set to travel to Spain this week to undergo a medical examination and sign a long-term contract. Diomandé will become the first Ivorian footballer ever to represent Real Madrid.

According to reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Los Blancos will pay in excess of €100 million to secure the 19-year-old star. Leipzig had previously rejected Real Madrid’s opening offer of €100 million before both clubs eventually reached an agreement.

Romano wrote on his X account, “Breaking: Yann Diomandé is going to Real Madrid. A deal has been finalised with RB Leipzig for the Ivorian winger for a fee in excess of €100 million. Diomandé will fly to Madrid this week to undergo a medical and sign a contract until June 2031.”

PSG Withdraw from the Race

Several European clubs had been competing for his signature before Real Madrid, with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) leading the pursuit. However, Romano confirmed that the French champions have officially pulled out of the race. Despite having agreed personal terms with the player, PSG stepped back from the bidding war in order to protect their financial discipline and maintain squad balance — a decision that has effectively cleared the path for Real Madrid.

The Story of a Rise from Relegation to Superstardom

Despite interest from Arsenal, Manchester City, and Liverpool, none of those clubs were willing to exceed the €100 million threshold. Diomandé’s journey to the top, however, has been anything but straightforward. He suffered relegation from La Liga with Leganés during the 2024-25 season, having made just six appearances and scored two goals. In 2025, Leipzig identified his potential and brought the young winger to the Bundesliga for €20 million — and that is where he truly flourished. He scored 15 goals in 46 appearances across all competitions last season, announcing himself as one of the most exciting young talents in European football.

From Childhood Poverty to a €100 Million Hero

Yann Diomandé grew up in a deeply impoverished family in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He left his home country alone, carrying nothing but a dream of making it as a professional footballer.

From childhood, his one and only idol was Cristiano Ronaldo. Unable to afford a Ronaldo jersey, he took a plain T-shirt and wrote Ronaldo’s name and number on the back with a pencil — a small but deeply symbolic act of devotion to the game he loved.

That same Diomandé now stands on the threshold of his greatest dream. Ronaldo’s former club, Real Madrid, are prepared to spend more than €100 million to bring him to the Santiago Bernabéu. The dream scrawled on that childhood T-shirt is on the verge of becoming a reality — written not in pencil, but in the iconic white of Los Blancos.
