The traditional Fazlu Hockey Academy in Old Dhaka has set a remarkable example of sustained success in Bangladeshi hockey, having won the Academy Cup — organized under the Hockey Association of Bangladesh — three years in a row.
Beyond finishing as champions in the Academy Cup, Fazlu Hockey Academy also won the Beach Open category at the Sepoy Para Open Hockey tournament in Rajshahi.
There are currently 21 hockey academies operating in Bangladesh, and Fazlu Hockey Academy continues to rise toward the top through its consistently strong performances.
Several accomplished players who came up through this academy — including Rafiqul Islam Kamal, Russell Mahmud, Jimmy Selim, Lucky, Liton, Habul Shawkat, Naeem, Emon, Arshad, and Abed — have gone on to enhance the country’s reputation on the international stage.
A reception was held yesterday (Tuesday) to celebrate the academy’s success. The event was attended by Rafi Chhata’s head, Murad; Archery’s ad hoc committee member, Ejaz; and Bandhu Enterprises’ head and former hockey player, Ekram Hossain Bulbul.
