The tug-of-war between Barcelona and Atlético Madrid over Julián Álvarez is far from over. On one side, Joan Laporta is waiting for talks; on the other, Los Colchoneros president Enrique Cerezo seems to be playing the silent listener. Instead, he occasionally breaks his silence to drop a bombshell or two against the Catalan club.
Álvarez is caught in a difficult situation due to the hostile standoff between the two clubs. Even if he wants to, he is unable to join his dream club. Attempts to meet with Atlético’s management have already failed, with the club stating that they do not want to sit down with the Argentine forward before the 10th of next month.
In response to Atlético’s decision, Barcelona have started working on an alternative plan (Plan B). According to a post on social media by renowned and reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Barcelona’s management is ready to look at another promising forward should the Álvarez transfer fall through.
The Spanish giants have reportedly been keeping a close eye on AFC Bournemouth’s young striker Junior Kroupi in recent weeks, viewing him as a potential replacement for Álvarez to bolster their attack. However, Barcelona are not alone in their interest in the 19-year-old French star — Manchester City are also reportedly considering a move for him this month.
Bournemouth are reluctant to let go of their best talent despite interest from Europe’s top clubs and have made it clear that they have no intention of selling Kroupi in the upcoming transfer window.
Kroupi’s current contract with Bournemouth runs until 2030. According to Transfermarkt, his current market value stands at around €70 million (£70 million).
